Jun 25, 2015 · It is the "transfer case" that is disengaged all four wheels; thus the transmission is "not" connected to anything while the transfer case is "disengaged". That is why it does not matter what gear is selected. All of that is "indicated" by the "blinking" 4-Lo light. The "blinking" light means the transfer case is "not" engaged. You'l see a rod that comes out of the back of the t case that looks like this. Pull it out until you hear it click once and that is 4wd.
